1. Epidermis (has for types of cells):

   • composed of keratinized stratified squamous epithelium .
   • Keratinocytes (90% of the cells )
     • Produce Keratin : tough fibrous protein  Function of Keratin: provide protection . 
   • Melocytes
     • produce Melanin : Pigment  Function of Melanin: Protects against damage by ultraviolet radiation 
   • Lengerhans Cells
     • involved in Immune system responses Arise from red bone marrow
   • Merkel cells
     • Function in the sensation of touch along with adjacent Tactile discs
     • with adjacent Tactile discs

   • stratum basale / Statum germinativm
   • Stratum spinousum
   • Stratum granulosum
   • Stratum corneum
   • Only in thick skin: Stratum lucidum
