Text types and characteristics

1. Narrative

   • It is an imaginative story in the sense of a spoken or written story about related events that tell a story Its structure includes guidance, complication, resolution and, occasionally, evaluation and reorientation.

2. Persuasive

   • It is intended that the reader agrees with the author about a problem. It is mainly based on facts that are used in an argumentative style and there is no place for personal opinions; but they can be considered occasionally. That is to say; the opinion and the facts try to make the reader believe that the author is right.

3. Argumentative

   • It is used to discuss a topic or problem, occasionally without obvious solutions but approached with different points of view comparing and expressing personal opinions. It serves to influence or change the mind of another person by showing that the author's argument is valid.

4. Descriptive

   • It is a text that identifies the phenomenon that will be described providing details related to qualities and characteristics; it focuses mainly on specific participants. It lists attributes of a person, thing, situation and refers to the five senses of the reader.
