   • they damage a computer once introduced or implanted in some way to it.
   • worms, ransomware, spyware

2. viruses

   • replicates itself by editing other programs and inserting its own code
   • cause billions of dollars worth of economic damage each year
   • may be used to seek profit, send political message, or for personal amusement

3. trojan horse

   • misleads users of true intent
   • derives from story of the fall of troy, in which a trojan horse statue deceived the people and caused them harm
   • could pretend to be a survey or a routine form to be filled in via email

4. spyware

   • gathers information about a person or an organisation
   • may be used to serve pop-up ads in order to personalise the users ads and make it appeal to them
   • can collect almost any type pf data, including personal information and credit card details, as well as log-in information
   • may come from a malicious website or be added to the genuine softwares intended functionality
