   • Phishing
   • Viruses
     • programs hidden in other files. they replicate themselves and become part of other programs
   • Trojans
     • programs which pretend to be legitimate but are really malware. they are normally disguised as email attachments. trojans cannot spread by themselves.

   • penetration testing : systems are tested for vulnerabilities to reveal any weaknesses in the system which can be fixed

   • network policies : a policy that provides rules or guidelines on what network users can and cannot do
