1. 1.Man´s progress through technology

   • It has been a constant struggle for the survival of our species.The nature has given us two very important weapons to survival:
     • Intelligent brain capable of solving problems
     • Hands with prehensile fingers, capable of handling tools
       • Having mastered tools, we built machines and new more complex tools
   • The electricity led to the knowledge of electronics and computers.
     • (these are technologycal advancements)

2. 2. Implications and consequences of technical activity

   • On many ocasions human activity has had unexpected consequences, particularly technological activity
     • We have been damaged by enviromental accidents and pollution
     • Example:
       • The extration and subsequent treatment of metals to turn them into technological objets

3. 3. The process of solving technological problems

   • The project method
     • There are no perfect solutions. We adapt the problem to the conditions we are given. Out of possible solutions, we choose the optimal
     • Is a process where we solve problemsby following these steps:
       • Defining the problem
         • Looking for several practical solutions
           • Choosing an optimal solution
             • Planning how to implement the solution
               • Putting the planned solution into practise
                 • Cheking to see if the solution works correctly
                   • Correcting possible mistakes and defects
   • Team work
     • Main caracteristics that make a teamwork different:
       • Leadership and responsabilites are shared. They take turns to perform each role
       • Tasks are shared in a clear way that evry one agrees on
       • Conflicts are resolved within the team by positively comparing ideas
       • Decisions are taken trough agreements that benefit the team

     • 1. Developing ideas and finding solutions
       • Propose possible solutions
         • We use brainstorming
           • Propose solutions quickly, practical or not practical
             • The secretary writes every idea
             • Then, calmly, we say wich are affordable and wich aren´t
               • Finally the rest of ideas are analysed again and we choose the final idea

         • Observing the object´s structure, shape, dimensions and measurements, where it get energy to move......etc

         • How is it works, and what practical use it has

     • 3. Defigning a proyect
       • The drawings are produced and all the aspects
         • The skethes and drawings may be:
           • General object perspective drawings
           • Detailed drawings of a particular part of the object
           • Front, overhead and side views of the object
           • Assemply drawing wich shows all of the object´s compoments
     • 4. Planning and manufacturing
       • The planning stage of the project will consist of estimating the follwing:
         • The tools that we used, so that they are available
         • The people who will be in charge of manufacturing each part of the proyect, and those who will assemble theparts to complete the objects
         • The amount of time estimated for the manufacturing tasks
         • The methods to be used to manufacture the parts
     • 5. Project report
       • Evry proyect need technical documents, that are called technical reports
         • You must incluide the drawings and diagrams
         • the technical report should incluide:
           • Cover
             • The title, the names and the date
           • Index
           • Planning
             • Distribution of time and tasks
           • A page for each possible solution propsed by each contaning a free hand drawing with the object dimensions, how it works...
           • The chosen solution with:
             • views of the object
             • Drawing of the parts
             • Assemply instructions
             • A description of tests
             • Budget
               • A table representing three tipes of costs:
                 • Materials
                 • the direct labour cost
                 • The cost of machinery, tools and production centre
             • Table of tools used
             • Table of materials used
             • Bibliography and websites consulted
