programming techniques

1. sorting

   • items must be compared to each other to be sorted
   • efficiency isn't a problem when sorting a small list
   • efficiency IS a problem when sorting hundreds of items
   • bubble sort
     • compares the first 2 and puts them in the right order, then moves on and does the second two values
     • worst case- n squared
     • best case- 1
   • insertion sort
     • similar to the bubblesort except inserting them into the correct places

2. vocab

   • synchronous process- one person does everything
   • asynchronous process- splitting up the work
