WIND ENERGY

  1. Turbine

    • A wind turbine is a mechanical device that can convert wind energy into electricity
      • Parts
        • The gondola
          • Rotor blades
            • Bushing
              • High speed shaft
                • The multiplier
                  • hoops
                    • the electric generator
                      • The electric controller
                        • Function
                          • The wind should turn the blades, which turn a shaft, which connects to a generator and makes electricity.
  2. Advantages

    • Could be affordable in remote locations remote facilities
      • Disadvantages
        • It could be a weather unpredictability huge tracts of land
  3. WHAT IS IT?

    • Wind energy is that energy obtained from the wind or, in other words, it is the use of the kinetic energy of the air masses
      • FEATURES/CHARACTERISTICS
        • They are of great help in remote places where the arrival of electricity is very difficult
          • GROUP MEMBERS
            • VANESA DE LA HOZ, NICOLE LOPEZ, DANNA DURAN 11-01 J.M
        • It can produce electricity to supply a wind farm or large power plants
        • Besides being a type of natural energy, and of course renewable, it makes it much easier to obtain it. This not only benefits us in the economic aspect but also in the aspect of the care of our planet
        • HOW DOES IT WORK?
          • The process begins when the wind turbine is positioned to take full advantage of the wind energy, using the data recorded by the wind vane and anemometer and rotating on its tower. Then, the wind turns the blades that are connected to a rotor that in turn is connected to a multiplier that raises the speed of rotation to thousands of revolutions per minute. This kinetic energy is transferred to the generator that converts it into electrical energy that is conducted through the interior of the tower to its base, then continues through the substation to raise its voltage and continues to the electrical network for subsequent distribution.
  4. What should people do to develop a wind farm?

    • Building a park requires a lot of work and study in which we can divide into 3 phases.
      • Planning and feasibility
        • Carrying out studies on wind location, topographic, seismic, environmental; design and economic planning. The first study is the most important and must be carried out for a year, since it is necessary to know the speed with which the wind blows and the frequency. With this we determine the feasibility of building a park in a certain region.
      • Equipment and construction
        • In this phase they include engineering work, installation of turbines (towers, blades, mechanical and electrical components). The first work carried out is civil (platforms, foundations and walk) Duration between 4 and 12 months Then start the constructions to connect to the network. Duration between 6 and 18 months And finally, the wind turbines are assembled, depending on the size of the park, it lasts between 12 and 24 months.
      • Operation and Maintenance
        • Ready, the parks are put into operation and the renewable energy source begins to be exploited to convert it into mechanical energy. Like any machine, you must have a maintenance schedule in the park, this ranges from retightening bolts (preventive maintenance) to changing the rotor, etc. (Corrective maintenance)
  5. TYPES OF WIND ENERGY

    • WIND TURBINES
      • A wind turbine is an electrical generator that works by converting the kinetic energy of the wind into mechanical energy through a propeller into electrical energy thanks to an alternator. Its direct precedents are the windmills used to extract water from wells. In this case, wind energy provides mechanical energy to a propeller rotor that, through a mechanical transmission system, turns a generator, usually a three-phase alternator, which converts rotational mechanical energy into electrical energy
        • WINDMILLS
          • Unlike wind turbines, mills are not used to generate electrical energy but to grind grains. There are different types of mills that can use energy from water (hydraulic mill), from animals (blood mills), or even small hand mills (like coffee grinders)
            • PUMPING MILLS:
              • They are called "mills" because of their resemblance to windmills, but their function is not to grind, but to extract underground water to the surface. The movement of the blades, thanks to a set of gears, becomes a reciprocating movement that allows the water to be extracted
                • SAILBOATS:
                  • They are boats that use sails to capture the energy of the wind and use it to move. They were the first means of transport used to travel long distances. Currently they are still used for recreational and sports purposes.
