1. Organizing Principle

   • Words being taught gives students multiple opportunities to develop a words meanings

2. Frame of Mind

   • Recognize words that you do know
   • No connection with certain words at all,
   • Recognize words you don't know

3. Categorized Vocabulary Words

   • Tier 1- Words are basic high- frequency and high- utility ( everyday language )
   • Tier 2- Words are both high frequency & Utility (Advanced or mature language user
   • Tier 3- words are low-frequency words- words needed to understand content area material
