Leading Questions
- Is there a difference in learners’ listening comprehension performance after undergoing a metacognitive listening strategies training?
- Are there differences in learners’ use of metacognitive listening strategies before and after undergoing a metacognitive listening strategies training?
Variables
- Independent (The treatment)
- The training in Metacognitive Strategies
- Dependent
- Pre-post test scores in both groups
- Independent (The treatment)
Treatment
- Experienced a metacognitive listening strategy training (MLST)
- Integrated to the same listening classes and same course otline
- Ss were provided a list of metacognitive strategies (what, when, how to use)
- Class Instructions with Pedagogic Cycle
- Regular checklist for Ss focused on pre and after listening
Instruments
- LCT: Listening Comprehension Test: Developed by researcher, validated
- MLSQ: Metacognitive Listening Strategy Questionnaire
Analysis
- Results from instruments analysed using SPSS
- EDA: Exploratory Data Analysis tool
- Analysis of covariance: ANCOVA
- t-test
- Results from instruments analysed using SPSS
Resuts
- RQ1
- ANCOVA: No significant difference in the listening test scores in both groups.
- RQ2
- Significant difference in both groups: ExpG significantly used more strategies after the training compared to CtrGr.
