Computational thinking
Decomposition
- Definition: Breaking a problem down into smaller, more manageable parts.
- Example: A mind map to solve a problem
- Why we use it: It is easier to solve a big problem when we break it down into smaller parts.
Abstraction
- Definition: Removing unnecessary detail from a problem to simplify it.
- Why we use it: To make sure only the problem that needs sovling is solved.
- Example: Drawing stickmen to show that someone is twice the size as another person.
Pattern Recognition
- Definition: Identifying repeating elements and grouping them together.
- Why we use it: Avoids solving the same problem more than once.
- Example: "Repeat step 2-6 three times"
Algorithms
- Definition: Giving a step-by-step instructions to solve a problem.
- Why we use it: Makes it easier to solve a long problem.
- Example: A flow chart.
