Terrestrial Ecosystems

1. Deserts

   • Are one of the hottest and driest places on Earth. Temperatures are very high during the day, and very low at night. Cacti and camels adapt well to these conditions.
   • Grasslands
     • Are flat areas of grasses and bushes.
     • Forests
       • Coniferous forests
         • Grow well in cold areas. They are home to evergreen trees, such as pines, and animals like the deer.
       • Temperate deciduous forests
         • Are home to rodents and deciduous trees such as maples.
       • Mediterranean forests
         • Grow mostly near the Mediterranean Sea. They are home to animals like the linx. The flora includes cork oaks or rosemary.
     • Savannah
       • In tropical areas, is home to zebras or lions. Some common trees are the acacia tree or the baobab tree.
     • Temperate Grasslands
       • Grow in colder areas, such as steppes or prairies, are home to animals like wolves.
   • Tundra
     • Tundra is the coldest and driest ecosystem on Earth. There are no trees here, but there are grasses and mosses. Is home to polar bears or reindeers.
     • Tropical Rainforests
       • Forests in tropical areas are warm and wet all year long.They are home to over half the animal and plant species on Earth.
