1. How do we show electrons in atoms

   • Through electron diagrams.

2. Valence electrons

   • Electrons in the highest occupied energy level
     • Responsible for chemical properties of the elements
   • example: Nitrogen 1s2, 2s2, 2p3 the valence electrons are the 2 in 2s2 and the 3 in 3p3. Therefore nitrogen has 5 valence electrons.
   • Valence electrons or an atom are shown as dots distributed around the element´s symbol.
