Group decision-making

1. Advantages:

   • Uses the different strengths and expertise of its members.
     • A group can generate more choices and reach better solutions to problems.
       • Leads to a greater collective understanding of the final course of action chosen
         • Promotes a sense of "ownership" in the decision, which may help to commit individuals , contributing to the success of the decision.

2. Disadvantages:

   • Groups are usually slower to make decisions than individuals, specially in situations where decisions must be made quickly.
     • An incomplete set of alternatives may be considered, and different courses of action may not be explored sufficiently, thus limiting possible solutions.
       • Individuals in a group sometimes do not feel as responsible for the actions of the group as when they make decisions individually. Collective decision-making can make it easier for members to reject personal responsibility and blame others for wrong decisions.
