- Algorithm Challenge (Psuedocode)
- Scenario
- Backpack contains bread
- No bread in backpack
- Player in bakery map location
- Player not in bakery map location
- Input
- Eat Bread
- Talk to baker
- Output
- You eat bread
- You are not carrying bread.
- The baker gives you a load of bread
- The baker is not here
- Actions
- Remove bread from backpack and increase player’s health by 1 (if not already at full health).
- Add bread to backpack.
- Scenario
- Recognition of Parts
- Part 2: Programming Challenge
- PC1: The player begins with 3 health points.
- PC2: The player begins with no equipment but can pick up items from the map and use them.
- PC3: The player begins in one of the center squares of a 5 x 5 map grid.
- PC4: The map must be displayed visually, as ASCII art.
- PC4: There must be at least two Non-Playable Characters (NPCs) that can be talked to.
- PC5: When talked to, the two NPCs will give a random game hint from a possible list of 5 hints. E.g. “The bakery is north.”
- PC6: The player can navigate the map using valid commands: “north”, “south”, “east” and “west”. Other navigation commands will return: “I do not understand”.
- PC7: When the player arrives at a new location a text-based description of the location is displayed.
- PC8: If the player tries to move outside the boundary of the map a message appears explaining that the way is blocked, and the player cannot move in that direction.
- PC9: Have a series of events that the player must complete to finish the game.

Self- Determined Criteria
- Part 1: Algorithm Challenge
- The Pseudocode in Part 1: Recognition of parts must be different to Part 2: Algorithm challenge
- The algorithm must contain at least 1 function.
- Part 2: Programming Challenge
- SD1: The game must allow for player to eat bread from bakery and gain health.
- SD2: The story of the plot must be relevant to the user persona's interests.
- SD4: The player must be able to check his health at any given time.
- Part 3: Proposed Solution
- Solution must meet user requirements
- Solution must have accessibility for users with some sort of disability.
- Part 1: Algorithm Challenge
Game Developer Options
- Constraints and Limitations
- Time
- Only 4 weeks timeframe to create folio and game
- Knowledge
- Criteria Requreiments
- As the game must have certain requirements, the possible options are limited. Such as the size of the map must be 5x5 and cannot be expanded.
- Time
- Resources Available
- Pre-made game: Forest of Lyrica
- Coding Platform: Thonny
- Coding Platform: Visual Code Studio
- Development Options
- Local Variables
- Classes
- Interaction between NPC & User
- Hints
- Hints are specific to only the certain NPC and must stay in the particular interaction
- Introduction to the game
- The player only need to be introduced to the game once, when they start the game. Hence, this variable needs to only be called once.
- Loops
- Global Variables
- Map Size
- Needs to stay consistent and declared throughout the whole game
- Player Lives
- Sword collection
- The game progress will depend on if the sword is present or not
- Backpack
- Game Map
- User Movement
- Explore Location
- Map Size
- Data Types
- Strings
- A string represents text data and can include letters, numbers, symbols, or whitespace. Strings are enclosed within either single quotes (' ') or double quotes (" ").
- Integers
- An integer is a numeric type that represents a whole number, positive or negative, without decimals
- Booleans
- Lists
- A list is a collection of items that can store elements of different types, allow duplicate values, and are ordered and changeable.
- Dictionaries
- Functions
- A function is a block of code that performs a specific task 3 . A function can take some input, known as parameters, and return some output, known as the result 1 . A function can be reused multiple times, which makes the code more modular and efficient.
