FIA1 Folio Mindmap

  1. Part 1

    • Algorithm recognition and description
      • Constructs
        • Assignment
          • Defining of variables in an applications, and assigning some purpose to them (numeric value, function, property) to be used in the application
        • Seqeunce
          • Order in which parts of application occur, in an organised manner
        • Selection
          • Making certain choices based on conditions in application, e.g. user input corresponding to an action
        • Iteration
          • Executing a set of instructions until a certain condition is met
        • Modularisation
          • Process of breaking algorithm down into smaller purposeful functions.
        • Condition
          • A statement which can be satisfield as true or false, with certain actions occuring on the outcome
    • Mindmap
      • Visual representation of ideas for each part of assesement
        • Using GoConqr
    • Algorithm Challenge and Desk Checking
      • Context
        • If the player talks to the baker, he will give the player a loaf of bread. If the player and baker aren’t on the same location, they cannot talk to each other. If the player eats the bread, 1 health point is restored (up to a maximum health of 5). If the player has no bread, they cannot eat the bread. The player starts with 3 health points.
      • Task
        • Write 1 algoritm to cover all tasks in context
          • Use variables of location and numeric value (assignment). user inputs with if statements (Selection and condition), and functions (Modularisation)
      • Desk check algoritm to make sure that it functions as expected
  2. Part 2

    • Python coding challenge
      • Perscribed criteria
        • • The player begins with 3 health points. • The player begins with no equipment but can pick up items from the map and use them. • The player begins in one of the centre squares of a 5 x 5 map grid. • The map must be displayed visually, as ASCII art. • There must be at least two Non-Playable Characters (NPCs) that can be talked to. • When talked to, the two NPCs will give a random game hint from a possible list of 5 hints. E.g. “The bakery is north.” • The player can navigate the map using valid commands: “north”, “south”, “east” and “west”. Other navigation commands will return: “I do not understand”. • When the player arrives at a new location a text-based description of the location is displayed. • If the player tries to move outside the boundary of the map a message appears explaining that the way is blocked, and the player cannot move in that direction. • Have a series of events that the player must complete to finish the game.
      • Self determined criteria
        • SC1:Location of various items cannot be revealed until NPCs are talked to and give relevant information. SC2:Game must have a bakery where the player can go to its location and are given a piece of bread to eat, which adds 1 to their health. This is a callback to Part 1, to do with the bakery/bread theme. SC3: Player must gain items in a specific order through specific actions.
      • Componenets of code
        • Local variables: Variables which are defined within a function, and can only be used there
        • Global variables: Variables defined outside of a function, which can be used anywhere
        • Data structures
          • Functions: Blocks of code which carry out specific functions when called upon
          • If, elif, else: Certain conditons can trigger certain actions
          • While: based on True/False conditon, certain actions can occur
          • Lists and arrays: stores multiple types of data which can be used later
        • Data types
          • String: text which can be printed
          • Numberic values (integers, floats, booleans): Used for calculations
      • Evaluation against success criteria
      • Screen recording of technical demonstration
  3. Part 3

    • Useability Principals
      • Accessability for multiple types of people
    • User Persona
      • Must have relevant problem summary, which can be helped by
    • Wireframe
      • Basic layout of all elements in the website to be added in mockup
    • Mockup
      • Full version of wireframe, with colour, images, text, etc.
    • Annotations for both mockup and wireframe, with respect to useability principles
