1. how do we know the UK is multi-ethnic?

   • range of music/foods/shops
   • the census says so
   • history shows people have immigrated to the UK
   • EU allows people to travel and work in any country

2. The problems with having a multi-ethnic society:

   • racism
     • some employers will not give jobs to certain ethnic groups.
     • landlords will only give accommodation to certain ethnic groups.
     • prejudice police officers will be more forceful on certain ethnic groups (stop + search)
     • some teachers discriminate certain ethnic minorities
     • The problems of racism:
       • discrimination crime rates would increase
       • can lead to groups like BNP (brit national party) stirring up hatred towards certain ethnic groups which leads to violence and communal wellfare
       • certain groups will feel alienated

3. Benefits of a multi ethnic society:

   • less chance of war
   • new people new ideas
   • enriching culture
   • food, entertainment, fashion
   • shows that different ethnic groups are part of the human race and we have more similarities then differences.
   • life is more interesting.

4. community cohesion

   • how are the government working towards community cohesion
     • making community cohesion part of learning curriculum in school
     • funding research into the best way of achieving community cohesion
     • It is unlawful to discriminate.
