1. Anti-virus

   • Should be used on email attachments and downloads.
   • Quarantines any programs or files which are harmful.
   • Needs updating regularly to make sure that it knows the latest threats.
     • If it regularly updates then it will protect your computer from being attacked by any virus.
   • Protects against malicious software.
   • Scans the computer periodically.

2. Firewall

   • Prevents harmful data entering your computer.
   • Used to help protect a computer network from intruders.
   • Controls which programs can send and receive data packets.
     • You need to control which programs can send and receive data packets because it could be something bad like a scam or virus being sent to your computer.
   • Used when program is trying to connect to another network.
   • A fire wall controls which programs can send a receive data packets.

3. Encryption

   • Encryption is when you are able to send a message to someone else and nobody else will know what it means.
   • To decrypt a message you have to have a key.
   • To encrypt a message you use a cipher
   • We use encryption in things like online banking so nobody can access our bank details.
   • We use encryption on messaging web sights so that others can't read our messages.
   • If the web sight has https at the top it means that it is secure.
   • You need to have https on website that you log in to.
     • This means that any data that you input will be encrypted.

4. Computer security

   • When buying products online make sure you check the reveiws to see what people are saying about things like the quality, the price e.c.t.
     • Because I could be a scam
   • Before opening emails and links check who sent it to you to make sure its not a scam from a someone you don't know.
     • Beacsue might not be safe fro your computer
   • Before downloading attachments check that they are safe for your computer.
   • Make sure you create a secure password that involves capital letters and numbers to make it harder for another user to guess.
     • Because if its not a secure password it might be easy to guess therefore your computer content could be seen by that person.
     • To make a good password make sure you add numbers like 123456 and capital letter either at the start, end or in the middle.
     • Also when making a password you could add in symbols to add more detail and make your password harder to guess for another user trying to get into your account.
   • Before downloading any
     • Because it could be a scam
   • Phishing
     • Phishing is when people send you emails that look like the real company is sending you but, really it is another person sending you something that could mean they can reach your username,passwords or credit card details.
       • This is bad because if you think that your details are safe they may not be when you open, read and do what the email tells you to do.
   • When logging on/making a account to a website make sure you are not using your real name, age or any personal details.
     • This is so you are sure you will stay safe online.

5. If you didn't use firewall or anti-virus in places like your home,school or work place your computer could get things like unwanted data packets on your computer causing your computer to crash or not work.

6. Malware

   • There are many types of trojan horse virus'
     • The backdoor virus - provides access to your computer. The user can access your files.
     • Trojan banker virus - can steal your bank details
     • Trojen game thief virus - access other players and steal things like game currency
   • Zombie virus
     • This virus, the zombie virus, takes over your computer.
   • Worm
     • A computer worm is a malware computer program that duplicates itself and spreads to other computers.
