2. Sensory memory

   • Capacity: -
   • Storage: sensory format
   • Duration: 1/4 to 1/2 seconds

3. Short-term memory

   • Duration: up to 30 seconds
   • Storage: acoustic
   • Capacity: 5-9 items

4. Key points

   • Three physically separate stores
   • All incoming information goes straight into the sensory model
     • If paid attention to the information goes straight into the STM, if not; is forgotten
       • However if rehearsed, it goes into the LTM; if not; is also forgotten

   • Strengths
     • Supporting evidence: Peterson and Peterson
     • Applications: It can help improve people's lives in an educational setting
   • Weaknesses
     • Individual differences: Doesn't account for individuals with learning impairments or photographic memory as no rehearsal is needed to transfer information to the LTM.
