1. solid state memory

   • non-volatile
   • smaller than a hard drive
   • compact memory
   • found in mobile devices

2. RAM

   • RAM is volatile
   • Fastest type of memory
   • Most expensive type of memory
   • Stores data from running programes
   • (Random access memory)

3. Cache

   • Memory that can be accessed quicker
   • Stores frequently used data and instructions
   • Caches must be relatively small
   • Embedded in the process chip

4. Virtual memory

   • Found on the hard disk
   • volatile memory
   • Much slower than main memeory
   • Increased security due to memory isolation

5. ROM

   • ROM is a non-volatile memory
   • (Read only memory)
   • Cannot be changed or accessd

6. Flash memory

   • Flash memory is non-volatile
   • Flash memory is portable
   • Flash memoy is found in USB's, MP3 players and solid state drives

7. BIOS

   • (Basic input/output system)
   • Contains the program to load the hardware
