DNS(Domain Name System)

1. The Domain Name System/server takes the URL that has entered and finds the web page associated with it.

   • 1.URL entered in the computer's browser.
     • Browser searches DNS database for the domain name.
       • Domain name found and its IP (Internet Protocol) address web page.

2. Example:

   • URL-www.motherwellfc.co.uk
     • DNS-looks up www.motherwellfc.co.uk in database.Finds correct IP address 32.26.106.39.Loads the webpage
       • Host Name Resolution:Changing the URL http://www.motherwellfc.co.uk/into the IP address 32.26.106.39.

3. Advantages of DNS

   • You do not need to remember any IP addresses of websites.
     • As long as you are connected to a DNS server you can access any website for which there us a stored IP address.
