Unit 3 - Security LO 1.1

1. Confidentiality

   • This is when information is secret and it should be held secure from theft and unauthorised access, it should only be used by people with permission to do so.

2. Integrity

   • This means if data has been changed without the authorised people changing it, it is integrent because it cannot be trusted

3. Availability

   • This makes sure that everyone who needs data has the data ready to use.
   • It will give the authorised people access to information.

4. Malware

   • Malware could mean any type of virus, such as a Trojan virus.
   • These are made to harm your PC or to steal personal/secret files.

5. Firewall

   • Firewall monitor the traffic that comes in and goes out of a network.
   • Also firewalls block viruses if you download something via the internet.

6. Password

   • Passwords are used to protect unauthorised people to access data which they shouldn't. These also prevent more errors to occur, as only authorised people will have access to specific information.

7. Tiered levels of access

   • Tiered levels of access are often used in schools to give the technician the most power, the teachers less and the students the least. This is done because some students can't be trusted and they therefore would mess up the system.

8. Encryption

   • Encryption is used to transfer data online safely. This data will be scrambled into letters and numbers and therefore it will be impossible for any hackers to get the correct information, as a key is needed to decrypt the data, which makes it understandable.

9. Network policies

   • These are rules of the internet which everyone should be following, as it could lead to harmful consequences to individuals or companies.

10. Archiving

    • This means to temporary delete data which is not needed, but could be needed in future.
