RAM and ROM
- RAM stands for
Random Access
Memory.
- RAM is the most common
type of memory for
hardware such as a
computer.
- RAM is a fast temporary type of memory. It is
how programs, applications, and data are stored.
For example the operating system, applications
and GUI are all stored on the RAM.
- ROM stands for Read Only Memory.
- Things saved in the ROM can not be
changed by a program or user.
- Even when the computer
turns off it retains the
information. Therefore, the ROM is nonvolatile.
- The ROM contains the
instructions of what to
do for example when the computer
is turned on after being
shut down.
- Ram loses data when
the computer turns off.
- The RAM is volatile data because the
content is lost when the power is
switched off.
