     • A CASE tool is a software tool that helps provide a number of functions which assists with the design and testing of a computer system

     • May include a code/application generator

     • An IDE provides programmers with various tools needed to create computer programs
     • Tools included
       • Editor: Allows a programmer to enter and edit source code
       • Compiler: Translates source code into machine code
       • Debugger: Helps locate, identify and correct errors in a program
         • Stepping: Execution of code one line at a time
       • Break points: Facility which interrupts a program on a specific line of code, allowing user to check values of variables
       • Variable watch: This is a facility which displays the current value of any variable
       • Memory inspector: Facility which displays the contents of a section of memory
