Identifying a phishing/ Scam
What is phishing?
- A Phishing email is from a criminal how is trying to find out your personal information by persuading you to click on to a link which hacks your details.
- It can also sometimes be the criminals who are trying to steal money from your account by alluring you .
- You can never trust these mails. It's always a good idea to recheck and confirm before you take action.
what to look out for
- Greetings: the greeting are not personalised because the phihers don't know your name.
- The sender's address is often just a variation of a genuine address.
- Forged links: the links many look familiar but it may not link to the website that's given. Roll your mice to check.
- Poor spelling and grammar: The phishers are not very good proofreaders.
- Request for personal information: most companies/ organisers never ask you to provide personal information through mail.
- Sense of urgency: the phihers usually persuade you that something bad can happen if you don't act fast.
I can prevent this by reporting and deleting the email.
