1. Components

   • CPU
     • Central Processing Unit
       • The CPU is responsible for executing a sequence of stored instructions called a program
   • Hard drive
     • The hard drive is the main storage device

     • Storage that the RAM takes data from
   • RAM
     • Volatile Storage
       • When the device is switched off all the data stored in RAM is destroyed.

2. Utility software

   • disk cleaner
     • The disk cleaner simply deletes the unused and unwanted files to free up file space so your computer/ laptop can run faster.
   • Anti- Virus
     • scan your device for viruses, periodically. (security)
   • Fire Wall
     • Decides which programs can receive and send data (security)
   • Disc Defragmenter
     • Connects fragments of files together, so that they can be accessed quicker
     • Fragment means 'a part'
   • Automatic Updates
     • Checks to see if there is anything in need of updating then updates them without your permission (security)

3. Operating System

   • The driver is the software which links the hardware to the operating system.

   • It keeps the time/date and calender up to date even if your computer is off
