- If there isn't an auxiliary in the sentence, -ly
adverbs of possibility come before the verb
- If there is an auxiliary then -ly adverbs can be
placed before or after be or the auxiliary

- Manner
- Usually come after the verb
- In sentences with an auxiliary
verb they can be placed
between the auxiliary and the
main verb
- Does not aply with auxiliary do
- Answer the question How?
- Describes the way something is done
- They were patiently waiting for the news
- Opinnion
- Most occur at the beginning of the sentence or
before the verb
- Includes words like: fortunately, happily, incredibly, luckily,
obviously, strangely and surprisingly
- They give an opinion about an entire sentence or idea
