Three years

1. Physical development

   • Gross motor skills
     • can jump form a low step
     • climb stairs with one foot on each step and go downwards with two feet on each step
     • can stand and walk on tiptoe and stand on now foot
     • have a good spatial awareness
     • can ride a tricycle using pedals
     • can walk backwards and side ways
     • can throw a ball overhand and catch a large ball with arms
     • use their hall body to kick a ball
   • Fine motor skills
     • can control a pencil using their thumbs and the firs two finers
     • can build towers of nine or ten cubes
     • can cut paper with scissors
     • enjoy standing and painting with a large brush
     • can copy a circle and the letters V,H,T
     • can draw a person with a head then comes arm from the head
     • build a tower of 3 or more cubes
     • can eat using a fork or spoon

2. Cognitive and language development

   • remember and repeat songs
   • can sort objects into simple categories
   • are fascinated by cause and effect
   • begin to understand the concept of time
   • use personal pronouns and plurals correctly
   • can match two or three primary colours
   • count up by rote up to ten
   • still speak to themselves when playing
   • enjoy listening to and making songs
   • can control their attention
   • learn to speak more than two language
   • carry on simple conversations
   • undrestande the concept of one and lots

3. Play

   • like to ride tricycles and play outdoors
   • enjoy simple craft activites
   • join in active pretend play with other children
   • enjoy play on the floor with bricks boxes
   • like jigsaw puzzles

4. Moral and spiritual development

   • are beginning to develop the concept of being helpful
   • believe that all rules are fixed and and unchallengeable

5. Emotional and social development

   • show affection for younger
   • manage to use the lavatory independently
   • can think about things from others points
   • are willing to share toys with other children
   • enjoy helping adult
   • enjoy family mealtimes
   • like to do things unaided
   • often develop fears
   • are aware of being male or female
   • make friends and interested about it
