1. What is Exel?

   • Excel is an electronic spreadsheet program that can be used for storing, organizing and manipulating data.

2. What is a cell?

   • Cells are the basic storage unit for data; Each rectangular box in a rowworksheet is referred to as a cell; A cell is the intersection point of a column and a row.

3. What is a Spreadsheet?

   • A spreadsheet is a sheet of paper that shows accounting or other data in rows and columns; a spreadsheet is also a computer application program that simulates a physical spreadsheet by capturing, displaying, and manipulating data arranged in rows and columns.

4. What is a column?

   • Columns are used as part of a cell reference which identifies the location of data. Is defined as the vertical space that is going up and down the window.

5. What is a row?

   • A row is a grouping of cells that run from the left to right of a page and a column is a grouping of cells that run from the top to the bottom of a page. Rows run horizontally in an Excel worksheet.

6. What is a range?

   • A range is a block of cells together, sometimes called a block. It is also a group or block of cells in a worksheet that have been selected or highlighted.

7. What is a function?

   • A function is a preset formula in Excel. Like formulas, functions begin with the equal sign ( = ) followed by the function's name and its arguments. The function name tells Excel what calculation to perform.

8. What are the functions categories?

   • Excel groups functions into categories to make it easier to find the right function for a particular calculation. Excel groups functions into 12 categories: Compatibility, Cube, Database, Date and Time, Engineering, Financial, Information, Logical, Lookup & Reference, Math & Trigonometry, Statistical and Text.

9. Give 5 examples of functions and explain their functionality.

   • CLEAN Removes all non-printable characters from a supplied text string. TRIM Removes duplicate spaces, and spaces at the start and end of a text string. MAX Returns the largest value from a list of supplied numbers. MOD Returns the remainder from a division between two supplied numbers. DAVERAGE Calculates the average of values in a field of a list or database, that satisfy specified conditions.

10. What is Microsoft Excel used for?

    • It features calculation, graphing tools, pivot tables, and a macro programming language called Visual Basic for Applications.
