FORCE

FORCE

1. NET FORCE

   • BALANCED FORCES
     • equal forces acting on an object
     • no motion
   • UNBALANCED FORCES
     • 1+ forces acting on object
     • unequal amounts of force
     • motion
   • combination of forces
     • opposite directs = subtract
     • same direction = add together

2. FRICTION

   • 2 objects rub against each other
   • depends on
     • how hard surfaces push together
     • types of surfaces
   • static friction
     • on stationary objects
   • sliding friction
     • 2 surfaces slide onto each other
   • rolling friction
     • object rolls on a surface
   • fluid friction
     • solid object move through a liquid

3. MEASURED

   • strength & direction
   • SI units
     • newtons

4. GRAVITY

   • UNIVERSAL GRAVITY
     • gravity is everywhere in the universe
   • MASS
     • the more mass the greater the gravitational pull
     • amount of matter in an object
     • WEIGHT
       • measure of the force of gravity on a mass
   • DISTANCE
     • the more distance the less the gravitational pull

5. NEWTONS LAWS

   • 3. force = mass x acceleration
     • acceleration = force / mass
   • 2. every action has an equal but opposite reaction
   • 1. an object in motion will stay in motion & an object @ rest will stay @ rest unless an outside force is exerted on it
     • INERTIA
       • the tendency of an object to resist a change in motion

6. MOMENTUM

   • velocity x mass
     • kg x m/s
   • the more momentum the harder it is to stop
   • LAW OF CONSERVATION OF MOTION
     • total momentum of a group of objects stays the same unless outside forces act on the objects
   • LAW OF CONSERVATION OF MOTION
     • total momentum of a group of objects remains the same unless outside forces act on the objects
