   • Chunking makes it easier to remember, increasing capacity.
   • Cowan and Vogel- only 4 chunks and size of chunk matters
   • The lower estimate of 5 is more accurate

2. Jacobs

   • Developed DIGIT SPAN technique. Progressively given more digits to remember. Read one at a time in a monotonous voice. Recall tested until they're unable to give correct order.
     • Mean span for: Digits- 9.3 Letters 7.3
     • Span increases with age due to development of strategies such as chunking.
   • Conducted a VERY LONG TIME AGO. Extraneous variables weren't controlled adequately.
   • Supports Miller

3. Simon

   • Tested OWN RECALL. Used 1, 2, 3 syllable words. Read them aloud and tried to see how many he could remember later on.
     • More syllables = shorter span Size of chunk matters.
   • Not GENERALISABLE
