1. Fish are a large group of vertebrates that live in the water

   • There are over 30,000 different species of fish.
     • Fish are vertebrates and use their fins to swim in the water.
       • Most fish are cold-blooded, and some eat plants or plankton.
         • The bony fish have a skeleton made of bone.
           • Cartilaginous fish have a skeleton made of a strong , flexible material called cartilage.
             • Cartilaginous fish are fast swimmers and good sense of smell.
               • Jawless fish also have a skeleton made of cartilage.
                 • Lampreys and hagfish are well-know examples of jawless fish.
