The computer processing unit

1. The processor or CPU

   • Is the electronic circuitry that executes instructions comprising a computer program.

2. Control Unit

   • It tells the computer's memory, arithmetic logic unit and input and output devices how to respond to the instructions that have been sent to the processor.

3. Registers

   • Registers are a type of computer memory used to quickly accept, store, and transfer data and instructions that are being used immediately by the CPU.

4. Arithmetic Logic Unit

   • Is a combinational digital circuit that performs arithmetic and bitwise operations on integer binary numbers.

5. RAM

   • The computer Random Access Memory gives applications a place to store and access data on a short-term basis.

6. ROM

   • It contains the programming needed to start a PC, which is essential for boot-up; it performs major input/output tasks and holds programs or software instructions.

7. Memory

   • Computer memory is the storage space in the computer, where data is to be processed and instructions required for processing are stored.
