Cancer Prevention Methods
- Eat Healthy
- The things we eat can be either good to prevent cancer or bad; because they increase the risk of developing it. Overall, have a healthy balanced diet and embrace vegetables. Avoid processed food and food containing GMOs (microwave popcorn, soda pop...)
- Be active
- Regular exercise is overall good for your health and it has proved to be helpful maintaining hormone metabolism and energy balance, decreasing colon cancer risk. Also, changes in metabolism of sex hormones like estrogen reduces risk of breast cancer.
- Protect your skin from the sun
- UV light exposure, especially for long periods of time and if your skin is very light, is the main cause of skin cancers like melanoma.
- Don't Use Tobacco
- Tobacco use is responsible for nearly 1 in 5 deaths in the United States, and the main cause of many types of cancer (lung, pharynx, larynx, trachea, throat, mouth...). As shown in a graph from the statistics, a big number of cancer patients have smoked.
- Know your family medical history
- The earlier cancer is detected, the greater chance there is to get rid of it. If you know that some of your family members have suffered from cancer, go to get screened often to check for tumors or mutations.

Cancer Treatment Methods
- Immunotherapy
- Immunotherapy is treatment that uses your body's own immune system to help fight cancer by teaching your white blood cells to fight cancerous ones.
- Surgery
- Used to diagnose, treat, or help prevent cancer in some cases. It often offers the greatest chance for cure, especially if the cancer has not spread to other parts of the body.
- Radiation Therapy
- Radiation therapy uses high-energy particles or waves to destroy or damage cancer cells. It is one of the most common treatments for cancer, either by itself or along with other forms of treatment.
- Chemotherapy
- Chemotherapy is the use of drugs to treat cancer. The drugs can be administered in different ways and they are used to kill the cancerous cells.
- Photodynamic Therapy
- Photodynamic therapy or PDT is a treatment that uses special drugs, called photosensitizing agents, along with light to kill cancer cells. The drugs only work after they have been activated or "turned on" by certain kinds of light.

Cancer Statistics
- More than 60 percent of the world’s new cancer cases occur in Africa, Asia, and Central and South America; 70 percent of the world’s cancer deaths also occur in these regions.
- The most common cancers in 2015 are projected to be breast cancer, lung and bronchus cancer, prostate cancer, colon and rectum cancer, bladder cancer, melanoma of the skin, non-Hodgkin lymphoma, thyroid cancer, kidney and renal pelvis cancer, endometrial cancer, leukemia, and pancreatic cancer. (USA)
- Tobacco smoking caused an estimated 101,000 deaths in the UK in 2010 - almost a fifth (18%) of all deaths from all causes. It caused an estimated 43,000 cancer deaths in the UK in 2010 - more than a quarter (27%) of all cancer deaths.
- About 1 in 8 U.S. women (about 12%) will develop invasive breast cancer over the course of her lifetime.
Current Cancer Fundings
- Many different associations fund cancer research and at the same time get this money from donations.
- Some Examples
- Worldwide cancer reasearch
- American Cancer Society
- Cancer Research UK
Link Between Statistics
- In the graph, I included regions of the world (and Mexico), plus I included an example of tobacco and cancer link with A UK survey, and another of breast cancer in the US. The lowest box shows the most affected regions of the world.
