   • Function = necessary words for grammar
     • Auxiliary verbs = do, be, have (help with conjugation of tense)
     • Prepositions = show relationships in time and space
     • Articles = used to indicate specific or non-specific nouns
     • Conjunctions = words that connect
     • Pronouns = refer to other nouns
