Tips on debugging your code

  1. Main errors to look for

    • Logic errors: These errors will not stop the program from running but the program just won’t work in the way you want it to.
    • Syntax errors: This type of error will appear when you don't follow the rules of the programming language the result of this is that your program will not run.
    • If you are not able to spot a error in your line of code and there is nothing wrong with it then it is more then likely the line before it.
      • Some times when you have wrote your code and it doesn't run properly the problem can also be that something is in the wrong place or is spelt wrong if so check the coulor of the code.
  2. Some of the most popular mistakes are because of.

    • Brackets Indentation Speech marks Colons Spelling
      • Brackets: Make sure that you have used brackets in the correct place, some times you could be in such a rush to get your program finished you may miss out some brackets
      • Indentation: Look at where your indentations are, if your indentations are in the wrong place the code can get confused and think that one pice of code is part of another
      • Spelling: Make sure all of your spellings are correct otherwise if you have part of the code which is supposed to correspond with another and one of the words are spelt differant then the code will come up with a syntax error.
      • Speech marks: If you have got a part in your program where you want it to print something then you need to make sure that you have got speech marks at the start and at the end of what you want it to say.
      • Colons: If your code comes up with a syntax error and you cant figure out what it is and you have checked the line before then you have most likely missed out a colon at the end of oen of the lines that would need one
