Multi-store Model- Atkinson+Shiffrin
Atkinson and Shiffrin created the multi-store model. This incorporates sensory memory, short term memory and long term memory.
The multi-store model is influential and has started research into the memory.
- Shallice and Warrington researched the case of KF and that showed two separate stores, LTM and STM
- Murdock did the serial position effect and learnt about primary and recency effect which provides support for the existence of two different stores.
- Glanzer and Cunitz did the serial position effect and found that the starting words (primacy effect) and last words (recency effect) were remembered.

Weaknesses
- The model is too simplistic as they believe there is only 1 LTM store, however Cohen and Squire suggested we had 2 LTM stores.
- KF (Case study) showed an auditory memory which was worse than visual, so showed different STM stores.
- The model shows that information only flow in one direction, but for example some things such as reading an article needs access to LTM.
- It is not sure if every day life memories are rehearsed to remembered, for example flash bulb memories are not rehearsed.
