Year 9- Item 1

  1. Algorithm constructs

    • Iteration
      • Iteration is also called repetition and is used when something is repeated, so anything where the program goes round in a loop.
        • An example is used with a loop, for example: For every 3 steps move forward Endfor.
    • Selection & Condition
      • A selection statement uses a condition to select which line of the program will be used next.
        • An example is IF Bubble Tea ordered THEN IF payment received THEN OUTPUT "Bubble Tea ready soon!" ELSE OUTPUT "Please complete your payment" ENDIF ELSE OUTPUT "Please place your order" ENDIF
    • Assignment
      • Assignment is storing a value in a variable
        • An example is: DECLARE class_name DECLARE room_number SET class_name TO 9X SET room_number TO B03
    • Sequence
      • Sequence is a set of instructions that are processed one after the other
        • Fo example a brushing teeth algorithm could use this sequence. First put toothpaste on toothbrush, use toothbrush to clean teeth, then rinse toothbrush after finished.
  2. Spike Prime Robot

    • Motors
      • Motors allow the robot to move around.
    • Distance Sensor
      • Distance recognizes if something is within the entered code of the distance sensor on the robot, it will do a action to avoid the obstacle.
    • Color Sensor
      • The color sensor allows the robot from the use of code to track a specific color
    • Touch sensor
      • The touch sensor allows a function when the robot touch senor is either soft pressed or hard pressed.
  3. Code Constructs

    • If Statement
      • An If statement is the same thing as a selection & condition
        • An example is: If pressed, your Spike Prime is happy! Display a smiley face. If not pressed, the Spike Prime is sad! Display a sad face
    • For loop
      • A for loop allows the code to run for specific amount of rotations. .
        • An for loop is when a code is inside a forever loop. For example, implement a forever loop code move forward 3 rotations and put that code inside of the forever loop , which will make the code continually keep doing the same action.
    • Other Code Constructs
      • A Forever loop, allows the code to run forever until stopped by the person .
      • If else statement
        • An If else statement allows the program to select different code blocks depending on if it evaluates to true or false.
      • While loop
        • A while loop for example is when a group of specific group of code repeats as long as the condition is true.
  4. Planned Response

    • Rockfall Challenge
      • The Rockfall Challenge is a Heavy rock fallen from an archway and is blocking the path for the robot to continue towards the exit. The robot must push the heavy rock away from the path and return to back to the path to escape to the exit.
        • A solution could be coding the robot to Move forward towards the heavy rock for a number of rotations, pushing the rock of the path and making the robot move backwards for a number of rotations until it senses the black line using the color sensor and continuing it's path to the exit.
    • Poison Ivy Challenge
      • The Poison Ivy challenge is hedge covered in poison ivy is blocking the path. The robot must navigate it's way around the hedge without touching and safety heading to the exit.
        • A solution could be coding the robot to turn left for a certain numbers of rotations off the black line, then the same for Turning right, and the same again by Turing right and retrace the black line, and continue its path ahead.
      • I will do the Poison Ivy Challenge
  5. Task Requirement

    • Prescribed Criteria
      • Follow a safe path to the exit.
        • Follow the black line using the colour sensor.
        • Complete the escape room.
      • Use sensor to identify any dangers or obstacles.
        • Use the distance sensor to avoid obstacles.
        • Use the touch sensor to avoid any dangers.
      • Use sensor(s) to avoid or manoeuvre any dangers or obstacles.
        • Use the distance sensors to detect the object and going around the obstacle, avoiding it.
        • Use the touch sensor to manoeuvre any obstacles off the course.
      • Complete a room-specific challenge.
        • To complete the poison Ivy challenge, I must use the distance sensor.
        • To complete the Rockfall challenge, I must code the robot to use the touch sensor.
    • Self-Determined Criteria
      • Make the robot colour sensor sense red to make a sad face and continue the robot past the intended exit.
        • Try to code the robot to exceed past the exit.
        • When robot colour sensor senses red, make robot do sad face.
