  1. Existing Text Based Adventure Games

    • Colossal Cave Adventure
      • Colossal Cave Adventure is a pioneering 1976 text-based adventure game (and interactive fiction) created by Will Crowther and expanded in 1977 by Don Wood
        • Strength- Groundbreaking environmental exploration that birthed the text-adventure genre by masterfully mapping out complex, real-world cave geography through vivid spatial text.
        • Weakness- Punishingly archaic design traps, relying on an unforgiving two-word parser, sudden permadeath, and confusing, non-reversible room pathways.
    • Zork 1: The Great Underground Empire
      • Zork 1: The Great Underground Empire is a classic text-based adventure game where you explore a mysterious forest and an abandoned white house to collect 20 hidden treasures. You type commands (such as "open window" or "take lantern") to interact with the environment and solve puzzles.
        • Strength- • It understands complex, natural sentences (e.g., "Attack the troll with the sword") instead of limiting you to clunky two-word commands, matching the interaction with a famously witty, responsive personality.
        • Weakness- • The game easily traps you in "dead ends" where a mistake made hours ago—like letting your lantern battery permanently die—makes the game impossible to finish without ever warning you.
  2. Algorithm Constructs

    • Sequence
      • A sequence is an ordered list of items, events, or mathematical objects where position matters and repetition is allowed
    • Assignment
      • An assignment is a task, job, or legal transfer of rights given to someone
    • Selection and Condition
      • Selection and condition refer to a core programming construct where a program makes a decision and chooses a specific execution path based on whether a logical condition is true or false
    • Iteration
      • Iteration means the act of repeating a process, or a single version/cycle produced as a result of that repetition, often with the goal of improving or refining the outcome.
    • Modularisation
      • he practice of breaking down a large, complex software program into smaller, independent, and interchangeable building blocks called modules
  3. Coding Constructs

    • IF statements
      • An if statement is a fundamental programming control structure that executes a specific block of code only when a given condition evaluates to true.
    • FOR Loops
      • A for loop is a programming control flow statement that repeats a block of code a specific number of times or once for each item in a collection.
  4. Prescribed Criteria

    • Your story must have at least 10 different variables in total
      • Contain at least 10 different variables
      • Have variables not connected to choices
      • All variables change a certain part of the story
    • You must have at least two choices for each input (IE. Yes | No, Left | Right, Buy | Sell)
      • Must have at least 2 choices for each input
      • Picking a certain option changes the story in some sort of way
    • You must use a WHILE loop
      • Use WHILE loop
      • Loop stops when game ends
    • You must use variables that match your storyline
      • All variables must be named correctly according to the context
      • Use variables that match storyline
  5. Self-Determined Criteria

  6. Ideas for story

    • Player has to obtain an item
