REPRODUCTION
- SEXUAL
- The joining(fusion) of male and female
gametes causing mixture of genetic
material so variety in the offspring.
- ASEXUAL
- No fusion, only one parent ther is no mix of genetic
information so offspring contains no variation and
offspring is genetically identical so a clone.
- GENETIC ENGINEERING
(GENE MANIPULATION)
- Genes from chromosomes can be 'cut
out' using enzymes and transferred to
cells in other organisms.
- Genes can also be transferred into plants,
animals or microrganisms as they start to
develop so they grow with desired
characteristics for example crops.
- crops with modified genes are
called genetically modified
crops (GM crops)
- Gm crops could be resistant to
insect attack or
herbicides(weed killers)
- GM crops generally show
increased yields
- Concerns about GM crops include effects on wild
flowers and wildlife also uncertainty about the
effects of eating GM crops on human health
