3. mutualism

   • obligatory association
     • provides reciprocal benefit to both partner

4. protocooperation

   • mutually beneficial relationship : not obligatory

5. commensalism

   • microbes benefit, but host neither harm nor helped
   • microbes shares same food with host

6. predation

   • attacks prey
   • microbes eg. : cause lysis
     • Bdellovibrio
     • Vampirococcus
     • Daptobacter
   • aquatic : need cilliates

7. parasitism

   • one organisms (parasites) benefits from another (host)

8. ammensalism

   • organism releases a specific compound that harms another organisms

9. competition

   • different organisms compete the same resources
   • competitive exclusion principle : 2 population overlap, 1 is excluded
