The Old Testament

  1. Creation 1st

    • God made the Earth and everything in it in 6 days, and he rested on the 7th. 1st Day: God separated light from dark. 2nd Day: God created the heavens and the Earth. 3rd Day: God made land, sea and vegetation. 4th Day: God creates the stars, sun and moon. 5th Day:God created the lands of the sea and the birds. 6th Day: God created the animals of the land and humans.
        • " God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the sixth day." Genesis 1:31
      • Loneliness was the only thing that God said was not good.
        • "Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done." Genesis 2:3
      • Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals,[a] and over all the creatures that move along the ground.” Genesis 1:26 God said, "Let us make mankind in our image", hinting that he was not alone at the beginning of time.
  2. The Fall 2nd

    • God told Adam and Eve to not eat from the tree of good and evil, but they could eat from any other plant in the Garden of Eden. Eve was curious and the serpent came to her and tricked her into eating the fruit. She then gave the fruit to Adam and he partook of the fruit as well. Then their "eyes were opened" and they realized they were naked. When God came and realized that they disobeyed he cast them out of the garden, to never return. From then on, man had to fend fr themselves and sin and death entered the world.
      • "Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?” Genesis 3:1
      • Noah and the Flood 3rd
        • The world had become filled with sin and the people had moved too far from God. God's plan to rid the Earth of all the sin was to flood the Earth. One man that had not joined in the ways of the world was Noah and his family. To save Noah and his family, God told Noah to build a huge ark and he was to also take two of each animal and take it on the boat as well. Then it rained for 40 days and 40 nights. To see if the earth was dry and the flood was over, Noah set out a dove. The dove came back to him, with a green branch in its mouth, showing that there was vegetation and the world was dry. When the ark was docked, There was a rainbow in the sky. The rainbow is God's covenant that he will never flood the Earth again.
          • The dove returned with an olive branch in its mouth.
          • The people had strayed from God and started to
          • The ark was made of pitch (tar) and cypress wood.
            • The ark had three stories with a roof and a hole on the top.
          • Abram/ Abraham 4th
              • This is what God promised Abraham: “I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.
              • Abrams original name was Abram, but God changed it to Abrham.
              • God told Abraham to live his people and his fathers family and go across the country. Abraham took his wife, his nephew Lot, and all his possessions.
                • When Abraham and Lot split, Abraham let Lot pick his land first. Lot chose the greener side, which was closer to Sodom, which lead to Lot and his family living in their gluttonous ways. Abraham ends up making a promise with God that if 10 people were good, God would save Lot and his family.
            • Abraham and Sarah were very old, and Sarah could not have children. So they
        • Because Eve ate the fruit, God made it so that woman would have pain in child birth.
          • Because Adam ate the the fruit, God made it so that man would have to labor for their food (they had to farm)
      • Because the serpent was the one that had tricked Eve, God cursed him above all other live stock and he has to crawl on his belly.
      • There was the Tree of Good and Evil and the Tree of Life. Adam and Eve could eat from the tree of Life but not the Tree of Good and Evil.
  3. Moses & Exodus 5th

    • Moses had many backgrounds. HE was born an Israelite but was raised Egyptian. He then lived the Midianite lifestyle as a shepherd and had a Midianite wife.
    • Pharaoh made a rule that all newly born Hebrew born boys must be thrown in the Nile, because he said that the Israelites were becoming too numerous and would join Egypt's enemies. To prevent the birth of the Israelites, Pharaoh went to the midwives and told them to cast the boy babies into the Nile, but since the midwives feared god, they disobeyed Pharaoh.
    • Moses mother hid him in a papyrus basket made with tar and pitch and set him among the reeds in the Nile. One day, the Pharaohs daughter went to bathe and she saw Moses in the basket, and she took him home to live under the Pharaohs house.
    • God sent 10 plagues through Moses. He turned water into blood, he sent frogs, lice, flies and wild animals and locusts. He made their livestock become sick and the people develop boils. There was thunderstorms of hail, three days of darkness and the death of the first born child. The last 2 plagues did not affect the Israelites. To be protected against the angel of death, the Israelite people spread the blood of a lamb pover their door frame.
    • After the death of his son, thePharaoh finally let the Israelites go. Moses lead them to the red Sea, but by that time, Pharaoh was angry and wanted to take the Israelites back. To get the Israelites away from Pharaoh, Moses split the Red Sea so when the Israelites fully crossed, the sea closed up again and swallowed the Egyptians.
    • To prepare for the passing over of the angel of death, the Israelites ate unleavened bread, bitter herbs, and lamb.
  4. Mt.Sinai and the Giving of the Law 6th

      • "You shall not make for yourself an image in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. 5 You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, 6 but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments." Exodus 20:4
      • These are some of the commandments: Do not use the Lord's name in vain. Remember the Sabbath and keep it holy. Honor your father and mother (so that you may live long in the land that God has provided). You should not murder, steal, commit adultery, or give false testimony against your neighbor. Your shall also not covet anything of your neighbor's; not his wife, female servant, or anything that belongs to him or her.
      • "22 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Tell the Israelites this: ‘You have seen for yourselves that I have spoken to you from heaven: 23 Do not make any gods to be alongside me; do not make for yourselves gods of silver or gods of gold." Exodus 20:22-23 This is where God specifically tells the Israelites that he is the only one they should believe in and make sacrifices to. The Israelites still make a golden calf (which is specifically what God told them not to do). This lead to Moses breaking the tablet commandments.
    • There are ten commandments. God said if you follow Jesus and the commandments, you will get into heaven.
    • Moses spoke the words that God wanted, because the people were afraid. They said, "and said to Moses, “Speak to us yourself and we will listen. But do not have God speak to us or we will die.” Exodus 20:19
  5. Post-Exile 8th

    • Since the main reason King Cyrus let the Israelite people go was for religious reasons, the first thing they did was rebuild their temple.
    • Any of his people among you may go up to Jerusalem in Judah and build the temple of the Lord, the God of Israel, the God who is in Jerusalem, and may their God be with them. Exra 1"3
    • Since the Israelites were usually enslaved or being ruled over, they had to rebuild their way of life and their religion. One thing they did was they made Sabbath a mandatory thing to attend.
    • The tabernacle they built held the ark of the covenant, which had the staff of Moses, manna and a few other things. Only the Levite priests could go inside the room with the Ark of the covenant and transport it..
  6. The Exile 7th

      • The exile of the Jews ended when King Cyrus of Persia let them go to Jerusalem so they could rebuild their temple.
      • The Assyrians were the first to overtake the Israelites, then the Babylonians and the Persians were last.
      • When the people were in the Desert of Sin which is between Mt. Sinai and Elim, God let a heavenly bread called manna rain down. IT was white like coriander and sweet like honey, and the people were told to gather enough for one day. If they gathered too much or were greedy, the bread would rot.
    • When the Israelites got out of the Desert of Sin and were thirsty, Moses cried out to the Lord for help. God told Moses to strike a rock and water would come out for the people to drink.
    • When the Amelekites attacked the Israelites, they were not strong enough to fight back. To help the Israelites win against the Amelekites, Moses told Joshua to get some men to fight, and he would stand at the top of the hill over looking the battle with the staff in his hands. Whenever Moses hands were lifted, the Israelites were winging, but when they were lowered they were losing the battle. Because of this, when Moses got tired, Aaron and Hur sat him down and held up his hands so at the end of the day the Israelites won the battle.
