Atomic Bomb
1. Dropped after an ultimatum was issued to Japan who didn't respond (didn't mention the bomb)
2. Stalin was not informed of the existence of the bomb
3. Bombs dropped on 6th and 9th, officially to prevent the war being prolonged and save American lives
4. Russia was due to invade China on August 15th to remove Japanese occupation, this would have made them eligible for reparations or concessions
  1. Timing suggests Truman wanted to prevent this

  1. Unlike Stalin and Truman, Atlee and Truman didn't have a good working relationship with Stalin

3. Soviets were occupying Eastern Europe and had set up govts
  1. West refused to recognise the govts as they were unelected
4. USSR had begun to take reparations directly from Easter Europe
  1. West concerned this would stifle economic growth
