Principles of Communication

1. Learning Outcomes:

   • 1. Understand the models of the communication process which use the idea of data transmission to explain communication. 2. Understand the importance of good interpersonal communication. 3. Appreciate the difficulties facing communicators and be able to give advice on how they can be overcome. 4. Understand the tools for increasing self-awareness & awareness of others. 5. Be sensitive to cross-cultural differences. 

2. The Linear Model:

   • One-way communication, from the sender to the receiver.
     • The sender is responsible for language used and what channel is used to communicate the message.
