2. what is a source progam

   • What is a Source Program? a program written in high level programming
     • what is a pseudocode?a notation resembling a simplified programming language, used in program design.
       • What is a trace table and describe its purpose?  Its job is to demonstrate what went wrong within an algorithm and to locate the problem
   • what makes a good code? the progam must work and be efficient the code also has to be clear
     • What is Dry-run testing? Is usually carried out on the algorithm which is written in pseudocode or as part of a flow chart
     • What does debugger/debugging mean? The process of testing a program for errors during its execution
   • Syntax errors Occurs when the programmer fails to obey due to in experience typically occurs when the programmer uses the wrong case placing punctuation where it should not exist or falling to insert punctuation e.g on python when writing a sentence you have to put a speech marks
     • Logic errors The program will run successfully however it will not behave in the designed manner as a result it will simply produce in correct results
     • Describe an advantage of dry-run testing? it shows you what went wrong within the algorithm and it is done on a small scale
   • Runtime errors Runtime errors happen whenever a program instructs the computer to carry out a operation that it is either not designed to do

   • There are a number of specific features within debuggers that can assist the program tester in detecting errors, such as:
     • Steps It allows the tester to continue the execution of the program one line at a time effectively stepping through the program
       • Breakpoints Break points are breaks that can be inserted manually into code my the tester in order to halt the execution of the program at specific points
         • Watchers. A table that displays the values of specified fields and variables relative to the particular line that the debuggers is currently on

   • Backups are copies of the original data and programs that are kept for security purposes in case the original is lost or destroyed.
   • Archives are data that is no longer needed in the short term but needs to be kept for future reference.
     • Often this is done to a removable media such as a CD or DVD.

       • Using a removable media
       • Placing them in a fireproof safe
       • Keeping them in a location away from the original files (a thief may steal the copies as well as the originals)
