How did you attract/appeal to your audience? PART ONE.
  1. Genre Research!
    1. This allowed me to investigate what already existing magazines currently cater for the needs of people who follow Indie Rock music.
      1. This therefore allowed to start planning ideas as to what my own product would include and look like in order to be suitable for my specific target audience who had unique tastes in music and styles.
        1. This meant thinking about more bright colour use to make my magazine more vibrant and attractive.
          1. This was also reinforced by my primary research.
          2. It also meant that I wanted to create a music magazine solely dedicated to Indie Rock as there wasn't currently one available.
        2. Textual analysis!
          1. For this, I had analysed two music magazines that were of similar genres to the genre I wanted to create.
            1. This proved useful in allowing me to see what features exactly I should be including in order to suit any music-loving audience.
              1. This therefore meant that while I still wanted to be creative and unique to suit my sub-genre of Indie Rock, I still wanted to include common generic features in order to create a professional product.
                1. For example, I wished to simply use an A4 size main image and a masthead alone on my front cover, however this may not have been easily distinguishable as a music magazine unless it included music-based contents such as sell-lines.
                  1. This also reinforced my ideas about the use of colour on my own product.
            2. Research collage!
              1. This allowed to create an image moodboard of possibly shots and poses I may want for my own magazine.
                1. This influenced my product by planning to create images that looks colourful and interesting to look at which was developed to appeal to my audience who would be a young audience.
                  1. It also allowed me to plan costume and props which would be used to show of the particular genre I was representing and relate to the fashion styles of the Indie Rock culture.
                    1. Therefore more Indie Rockers would therefore be interested in the magazine and want to read it.
                2. Secondary research!
                  1. Secondary research provided useful in seeing what ages typically read music magazines of similar genre and styles to my own and who exactly mine would be targetting also.
                    1. This would then influence my ideas as I would constantly have to be creating ideas that would interest the ages of 25 and under.
                  2. Photography planning!
                    1. This meant that I was researching into styles of images music magazines normally include and meant that I was thinking about the types fo images would be more suitable to an Indie Rock genre, so more unusual poses and colour schemes, i.e. black and white or enhanced colours.
                      1. After all, like previously mentioned, I would be targeting a young and creative audience that would need to be satisfied with equally unique colours, styles and images.
                        1. This was also the case with my magazine content planning in which I was coming up with ideas of content that my target audience would be interested in, such as new artists mentioned, freebies (due to how my target audience would most likely be in school/college/uni and wouldn't have much money) etc.
                    2. Flat planning!
                      1. This gave me a basic idea of what I wanted to include and how it would look, giving me the opportunity to come up with more ideas and make improvements before creating the actual product.
                        1. This therefore helped me appeal to my audience who would want a product they are paying for to look professional and interesting.
                      2. Font research!
                        1. Another aspect of research and planning that saw me look into various font types that might be interesting and weed out the weaker ones so that my magazine would be fully readable while still being unique and attractive to my young audience's eye.
                        2. Article planning!
                          1. This final act of R&P meant that I could create a draft article that would be featured on my double page spread, including intersting questions that my audience may find informative, such as how that young artist found fame through audience-produced sites like YouTube etc.
                            1. This would, I thought, definitely appeal to my 16-24 year old audience as many teenagers/young adults use sites like YouTube to showcase their musical talents.
