Circulatory system

1. Main job- to supply oxygen all around the cells in the body

2. Oxygen enters the body and passes by lungs

   • The oxygen diffuses from the air in the lungs into the blood
     • When it is filled with oxygen and it is bright red
       • We call it oxygenated blood
   • Oxygen leave the blood while passing through the tissue of cells using up oxygen
     • oxygen diffuses from the blood into the body cells
       • When the blood has lost it's oxygen and it has blueish-red colur
         • we call it deoxygenated blood

3. The heart has four chambers.

   • The two atria collect the blood.
     • The two ventricles pump the blood out of the heart.
       • Valves prevent the blood from flowing backwards.
         • The septum separates the two sides of the heart.
           • three types of blood vessel:s
             • The Arteries that carry blood away form the heart
             • The Veins that carry blood to the haert
             • The capillaries that are in the lungs and where gas exchange happens

4. The blood

   • Plasma which is the fluid part of the blood
   • The red blood cells which carrie oxygen around the body
     • Contain haemoglobin
   • The white blood cells produce antibodies which help kill bacteria
   • The platelets come together to form clots
   • When exercising:;
     • Transports nutrients and waste
     • Delivers oxygen to the working muscles
     • Removes heat (temperature regulation)
     • Dilutes/carries away lactic acid (acidic balance)
     • Blood pressure increases
