Power supply - This provides power to the components of the entire system.

Motherboard - The motherboard connects the CPU and RAM as well as the rest of the components to be connected and communicate to one another.

RAM - is a form of data storage it allows data items to be read.

CPU - the central processing unit acts as the brains of the system it retrieves program instructions from the RAM which the CPU processes it and executes these instructions.

GPU - Graphics Processing Unit acts as the CPU but for graphical inputs it translates the polygons into interpretable data.

Sound card - is either integrated into the circuit or an expansion card, this allows the PC to be connected to multimedia interfaces to produce sound.

HDD - the hard disk uses a series of platters and a spindle spinning in large speeds in which the spindle translates the data into these platters.

Optical drive - the optical drive uses lasers to read and write data, they are used for media interfaces such as reading and burning media to cds, blu rays
