Synopsis: Vince, a high school student is bullied by his peers, because they think he is gay. Vince then finds himself with a fairy godfather, a swishy walking man named Melvin. Melvin explains that he could have become a Guardian Angel but threatened to press sexism charges if he couldn't become a fairy godfather instead. Melvin was murdered by his bullies for being gay. Melvin then explains how a gaydar works and gives Vince a chance to see people who are homosexual, question, bisexual or have had any sort of homosexual instance, as blue. Many people who he thought would have been blue, weren't. Many people who he wouldn't have thought were blue, were. He sees blue people in history books and on TV, especially a politician who is known for being against homosexuality. Vince himself was a little blue, as was his father. Vince then wishes that the blue gaydar would go coast to coast, so everyone could see the way he was for a day. Then he wished that Butch would be blue, but Melvin said that Butch was already blue. Vince saves his third wish. The day was called 'BlueDay'.
could be viewed as a 'bad' story for kids because it has a specific agenda
points out that homosexuality is not a choice, but you can choose to hide it or embrace it
Vince tries to impose a sexuality on Butch, just as Butch had done to Vince at the beginning of the story
Doesn't discuss the modern consequences of outing people, expect when Melvin says that if people could only see that people they already live comfortably with and/or around are gay, then they wouldn't think that it's bad or wrong.
