SACRAMENTS OF INITIATION

BAPTISM:

=a sign of becoming a member of the christian community

RITE OF INFANT BAPTISM:

parents and godparents meet at the door= welcoming into the church community

priest makes sign of the cross= now belongs to christ

bible reading= god is present

casting out evil= child is filled with Gods presence

annointing of oil= fight off evil

blessing of baptismal water= sign of life

reject satan

pouring water= sin washed away

annointing of chrism= prophet, priest & king

white garment= purity

candle= light of god

BELIEVERS BAPTISM:

=initiation by immersion in water, of people old enough to understand the ceremony

RITE OF BELIEVERS BAPTISM:

minister gives sermon

candidates called forward= wear white garments

candidates asked if they repent their sins

"X because you have repented your sins and have requested bapstism, i now baptise you in the name of the father and the son and the holy spirit. amen"

candidates leave the pool

ADV OF BELIEVERS BAPTISM:

understand the choice

symbolic of leaving past behind

publicly declaring love of Jesus

D.ADV OF BELIEVERS BAPTISM:

considered scary

original sin isnt immediatly washed away

if a baby passes away, they may not get into heaven

CONFIRMATION:

RITE OF CONFIRMATION:

presentation= red vestment is symbolic of holy spirit

baptismal vows= now answer on their own behalf

laying of hands= passing of the holy spirit

sponsor= support of local church community

confirmation= new name is like new life in church

sign of peace= christian unity

royal doors- symbolise heaven and earth
