The Cold War 1945 - 91 (Revision - Intro)

• The Course is divided into SIX sections:
• The Origins of the Cold War c 1945 - 49.
• The Widening of the Cold War, 1949 - 55.
• The global War, 1955 - 63.
• Confrontation and co-operation, c. 1963 - 72.
• The Brezhnev Era, 1972 - 85.
• The end of the Cold War, 1985 - 91.
• Notes:
• This is a DEPTH study - meaning you need to have detailed knowledge of the events and issues - a superficial knowledge is not enough.
• You have a compulsory document question worth 30 marks and two essays from 3 worth 25 marks each.

Cold War Interpretations

• You are not required to evaluate the interpretations in the depth study as you are for the Tudor paper, but understanding the various interpretations will help you.
• Use the resources opposite to remind yourselves of the main Interpretations and to check your grasp of the key terminology.
• Once you have done this - move onto the next slide.
